Tesla Model 3: Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) (Remove and Replace)

Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) (Remove and Replace)  

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  3. Use Toolbox to place the vehicle into EPB Service Mode. See Release Parking Brake Using Toolbox.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Using a flat head screwdriver, compress the brake piston by carefully pushing the caliper away from the brake rotor.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Remove the rubber cap that covers the upper LH rear caliper to caliper bracket bolt.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Remove the upper bolt that attaches the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear caliper bracket.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Remove the lower bolt that attaches the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear caliper bracket.
  2. Use a brake caliper S-hook to hang the LH rear caliper on the body.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Remove the brake pad from the LH rear brake caliper.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Remove

  1. Remove the brake pad from the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
  2. Brush the LH rear brake caliper and LH rear brake caliper bracket anti rattle springs with soapy water.

Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

Install

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

  1. Install the brake pad on the LH rear brake caliper bracket.

Tip: During installation, press the brake pad away from the brake rotor.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

  1. Install the brake pad on the LH rear brake caliper. Note: Mate the brake pad spring clips to the LH rear caliper cutouts.

  1. Position the LH rear caliper on the LH rear caliper bracket.

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

  1. Install the lower bolt that attaches the LH rear caliper to the LH rear caliper bracket. Torque 90 Nm

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

  1. Install the upper bolt that attaches the LH rear caliper to the LH rear caliper bracket. Torque 47.5 Nm

  Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Sport Brakes) - Install

  1. Install the rubber cap that covers the upper LH rear caliper to caliper bracket bolt.
  2. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the RH rear brake pads.
  3. Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  4. Lower the vehicle, and then shift the vehicle into Park.
  5. Pump the brake pedal to seat the pads against the brake rotor until the brake pedal feels firm.
  6. Perform a test drive and burnish the brakes. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
