Tesla Model 3: Coolant Pump - Powertrain (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  4. Position a coolant drain under the superbottle.

Coolant Pump - Powertrain (Remove and Replace)

  1. Release the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the suction liquid line.

  1. Disconnect the electrical harness from the powertrain coolant pump connector.

Coolant Pump - Powertrain (Remove and Replace)

  1. Remove and discard the bolts that attach the powertrain coolant pump to the superbottle, and then remove the pump from the superbottle.

Install

  1. Remove and discard any o-rings or debris in the superbottle where the coolant pump will install.
  2. Make sure that new o-rings are installed onto the new coolant pump.
  3. Lubricate the o-rings with Silaramic lubricant.
  4. Position the outlet of the coolant pump in the up position, and then insert the coolant pump into the superbottle.
  5. Make sure that the coolant pump is fully seated in the superbottle.

Coolant Pump - Powertrain (Remove and Replace)

  1. Hand-tighten new screws to attach the coolant pump to the superbottle.
  2. Tighten the coolant pump screws in a cross-pattern. Torque 1.8 Nm

  1. Connect the electrical harness to the coolant pump connector.

  1. Fasten the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the liquid suction line.
  2. Connect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  4. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the cabin intake duct assembly. See Duct - Cabin Intake (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the coolant drain from under the vehicle.
  7. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
